Children in Worship

At. St. Luke’s we wholeheartedly encourage children to be in worship with their families. We believe children learn to worship in the community of faith; which includes all of us. We recognize that children might get the wiggles and feel the need to move about during worship; please know that is ok. To help you during these times, we have provided a “Kid’s Corner” station in the foyer. There you will find Children’s Worship Folders, crayons, books and Helpful Tips

We are happy to announce the St. Luke’s nursery is open for both the 9am and 11am services. The nursery will be closed in between services for cleaning so there will be no childcare for Sunday school at this time. The nursery will also be open on Monday mornings for Mom’s Group.

Reservations are required for both Sunday and Monday childcare. Please reserve your spot by the Friday before the Sunday or Monday you will be requiring childcare. Please note: even if you are unsure of attendance feel free to make a reservation. Reservations will help us determine whether 1 or 2 rooms are needed and how many childcare workers should be scheduled. There are up to 10 spots per service which should offer plenty of room for any family who needs childcare on Sunday or Monday mornings.
Reservations and more information can be found HERE.

  • Sundays: 8:00 AM -12:00 PM and Monday
  • Located in the Noah’s Ark Room 102 & the Shepherd’s Room 103

St. Luke’s Communion Instruction Class

Fall 2021

It is our tradition at St. Luke’s to offer a special Sunday School series in Communion Instruction. This class is especially geared to first and second graders, but older elementary children are welcome as well.
In the Episcopal Church all baptized persons, regardless of age, may receive communion. Once a child is baptized, the decision as to when they will begin to participate in the Eucharist rests entirely in your hands as parents. This class series is therefore in no way a “prerequisite” to your child receiving communion. If they have been baptized they may already be receiving, or you may have chosen to wait ~ that is up to you. The decision to offer this class is based more on the thought that by first grade children may be ready to learn more about what we do in worship and why we do it! In addition, it allows both you and your child’s church family to celebrate this spiritual milestone in their lives.
The class will meet on Sunday mornings in room 202 (2nd floor) during the regular Sunday School time (10:00-10:45 a.m.) from September 19 – November 14. Barbara Bibb, Suzette Harris and Leita Hatcher will be teaching the class this year. On November 14th there will be a special blessing and recognition during worship (more on that later!)
Should you decide to participate in the Communion Instruction Class we ask that you please:
  • Make every effort to be here each Sunday**
  • Be on time ~ we will begin promptly at 10:00
  • Fill out a registration form for your child.
** We realize that some family circumstances make it possible for your child to be here only on certain Sundays, so please know that arrangements can be made if that is the case!
NOTE: If your child has not yet been baptized and you would like for them to participate in this class, please contact the Clergy Admin. Assistant.

Children’s Chapel – On Hold for Now

Children’s Chapel

for 1st-5th graders during the 11:00 AM service. Children begin the 11:00 AM worship service with their families. Following the “Song of Praise,” children are invited to follow the “crucifer” (a child carrying the children’s cross) down the center aisle and to the Children’s Chapel upstairs. This Children’s service includes music, a Gospel reading, a brief “children’s sermon,” and prayers. Children are invited to participate as “crucifers,” “acolytes” (lighting the candles), and by reading the lessons. Children rejoin their families in worship during the Peace.

Preschool Chapel

for ages 2 years-old through Kindergarten from 11:20-11:35 AM in Room 201. This worship time includes music, a Bible story, and prayer time. Children are invited to serve as “crucifers” (carrying the cross) and “acolytes” (lighting the candles and passing the offering basket). Parents can send an offering with their children if they wish. (No offering is too small…even pennies!) Children already in their childcare rooms are accompanied to this service by the Childcare/Nursery staff. Children return to their childcare room afterwards.
